Members of Futsal Team we won the first world championship, we are writing a book to commemorate its tenth anniversary (it was on 3 December 2000 in Guatemala).
Although the post longer than I usually post, I wanted to share with you one of the chapters I'm writing that book, about the lessons they learned the task force. Hope you like it.
this world championship not only gave us the opportunity to enroll in history, but also served as us test in a way hitherto unknown, at least in football room, directing groups.
Key was no fool. When we designed the preparation of the World, we realized that we had to work very, very hard. This required intensity can only be achieved with a group of players are very committed and enthusiastic about the mission, something that we did not advance, at least part of the group (we had the initial problems that occurred with the list short of players). Against this background, we chose to introduce constant elements of motivation in all tasks designed in practice. For example, if we had set as its objective the improvement of the shot at goal, they formed pairs of players competed against each other, forming qualifying to give a final winner. All data were recorded and then spent a few lists that were put into the recreation room intended for use by players who had provided at the hotel. There everyone could see who was the first competition shot on goal, but also assists in recovery, etc.
groups also collected data on the parties and we compared some others, which helped us to set specific objectives for each training game, friendly or official in the previous game if we lost 15 balls, the next goal was to lose less than that amount and so on all the variables recorded: Recoveries ball, shot into the net, misconduct, etc. This approach shows promote maximum competition in all drills and daily motivation to tackle really tough sessions.
Another innovative aspect, although at concentrations outlined above, was to create a microclimate of privacy. Therefore, we call the organization's Championship given us by one floor of the hotel exclusively for the expedition, including a room (the studio) without furniture or bed to put tables for reading, card games, television and conversation. This fom ENTAM coexistence and the feeling of home in a place so impersonal as a hotel giant of 5 stars. Over there you could walk in shorts, barefoot, shouting, singing or doing what he really wanted to, within the civic norms and respect. A telling fact is that all the world had, by his own initiative, the bedroom doors open wide .
Another lesson we learned the technicians in this championship was to handle the communication. Until then, the preparation of the games was done with hours and endless data on rivals. Videos of matches played cuts, strategies, etc, etc. In short, ejecutábamos a technical manual unsure: cram Data-players with the excuse that nothing escaped us or to justify to others that work hard. science experience and showed us that the player only holds one-way video or explanation as much of 15 or 20 minutes, the rest of the time we look with your eyes but his mind is elsewhere , is even making fun of ugly shoes we carry. In this sense, the fact of having my team with former players of high competition and international (I include myself among them) helped us tremendously to understand boys.
As pioneering experience, we implemented a way to make games much more participatory and fun. We watched a video prepared ahead of time of 15 minutes or less. From there we did a matrix on a board where we divided between strengths and weaknesses. After the video, one by one all the players we had to say a virtue or a defect in the equipment they had seen in the video (our rival). I wrote down, and once the round, each player would start one where we had to give a solution of how to minimize the strength targeted or how to exploit the weakness observed. If anyone said a lot, instead of ridicule, we used the Socratic method, that is, asking him questions their responses to realized the mistake and think the right conclusion. With this method not only foster care (everyone knew he had to participate, so pay attention to the video and explanations), but create a climate of participation where everyone, absolutely everyone (young and old) felt important. In addition, over the years, created a huge tactical culture.
say the forces you need to probe previously unexplored paths, and this was the case that we came up with the emotional intelligence . Not long before he had read the book by Daniel Goleman which dealt with this type of intelligence, but I never thought we were going to do a PhD on this subject in Guatemala. Since self-knowledge, self-motivation, self-control (attempts to throw us off balance were constant, ignominious emotionally) through a skill that helped us a lot to grease the coexistence of the group: empathy. The stories told by the players on beer and fast food restaurant are true, but we talked in private and put us in the skin of the players: the food in the hotel was not the best for an athlete, trained very hard and also feel deceived so venial a "leaders" will produce a feeling of pleasure and complicity that helps unite the groups. In this case, we played dumb by law. Furthermore, this experience, we learned to carry food and cook your country can become the best signing of the machine as well and we did from Guatemala.
Another issue we found was the importance of the technical team responsible remain united or monolithic so, because in these environments is very easy to fall into the temptation of giving in to a player or someone from the outside environment without realizing that runs contrary to the guidelines issued by the Directorate. What in first instance is a crack, is then converted into crack and eventually broke up altogether. I can assure you that in my professional life I have met some special character in these conflicts and has made a real blight in many groups with the sole intention of achieving its objective, usually spurious .
Finally, there was a skill we play intuitively and we were not aware until now, when new discoveries in neuroscience have revealed the relationship between thought-emotion-action. This theory has to say in a very simplistic (I apologize to the scientists) that every thought (Mental event) triggers a physiological reaction (emotion) that takes you to perform an action. Example: You hear a noise in the dark and think it's a thief on that information to the brain, the body secretes a substance (adrenaline and cortisol) that make you go out running or froze. Well, if you want to change behavior, necessarily must change the thoughts, which are often influenced by genetics, education, experiences, values \u200b\u200band beliefs.
We at that time were not aware of this, but the intuition to take 20 years stuck in this human teams let us know what was good or bad for the group. Thus, knowing that some players were emotionally impacted and intoxicated on the causes of a decision that we exclusively sporting grounds, behaviors and attitudes were affected by that thought. With this premise, our work was to demonstrate, through example, what is wrong with this way of thinking and, with respect to each opinion, go modifying it little by little. After changing the thought, emotion, anger and apathy could turn into sympathy and complicity and then sank action: to train and live in a cold and politically correct we do it with passion and commitment. In addition, the overall dynamics finally started gobbling up the last remaining individual reservations. I still have fresh in my memory the juicy conversations with some players at the championship celebration party, which reassured us that something (not yet define knew) had done very well.
For pure sports planning and hard, both Jose A. Rincon Diaz (The teacher) and I understand that is so necessary and boring as all planning, since paper is patient and really hard to solve the problems that appear when you change the arrows on the chart or tasks designed by human beings must execute .
However, if anyone who reads these lines are interested in purchasing them, they need only contact us and we will immediately .
Finally I leave you a video summary of the end of that world to enjoy wonderful as I remembered.
